Police reforms in New Zealand

New Zealand police hogged the headlines during the past few days.

Police dropped its armed police trial after it was discovered that it was nothing more than a recreational holiday and data is mostly missing about its operations. You can read all about this in detail here, here, here, here and here.

On the other hand, police minister Stuart Nash claimed the police was addressing unconscious bias.

The issue of racism in New Zealand police has been highlighted due to Black Lives Matter protests in New Zealand.

Khylee Quince, associate professor of law at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) spoke to Radio New Zealand about institutional racism and discussed the challenge of police reforms.

New Zealand police went through a change management programme Police 2000 (P2) a couple of decades ago. There is a need to evaluate whether the unconscious bias as stated by Stuart Nash or institutionalism racism as mentioned by Khylee Quince was fine-tuned by P2 or not?
