“Operation Kabaddi” has been revealed only recently. Was it really a post Kargil 1999 plan?
Kargil incursions were proposed many times before, especially during the regime of Zia ul-Haq. Hassan Abbas discloses that a Kargil operation was suggested to Zia twice, to be rejected on both occasions, while Zia asked convincing counter questions about the value of this type of operation, no answers were made available.
A similar proposal was also made to Benazir Bhutto without success in 1989 and 1996. Musharraf later executed Kargil plan, which derailed the ongoing track two diplomacy peace process between India and Pakistan at the time.
